MEET YOUR DOula

Jerrica Dennison
Postpartum Doula

Hi! I’m Jerrica Dennison!

I am passionate about postpartum health and wellness!

I believe that all families deserve better support post-birth. My goal is to help birthing parents feel empowered and educated about their choices as a parent in the newborn stage.

Testimonals

  • H. Hill

Having a doula is amazing. I have all the appreciation for having one postpartum. Our doula went above and beyond anticipating our needs (mine, babies and my spouse's!) without us even having to ask. I really wish at least 24 hours of postpartum doula services were the standard of postpartum care.

  • Madilyn S.

Having a postpartum doula with my first baby was so nice! Jerrica did so much for us whether it was holding my baby so I could nap, getting me food, and helping with laundry. Jerrica was always a calm presence when she entered our home during this wonderful but also challenging time. She always discussed with me how different parts of postpartum were going for me and my family. Having an open ear to debrief with made a world of a difference on my mental health!

 FAQs

  • Great question! Birth doulas typically only attend the birth of the baby- at home, in a birthing center or in a hospital. Some birth doulas are also trained for postpartum care.

A postpartum doula cares for you and your family post birth. We are there to nurture, educate and assess the needs of the entire family. We can help you plan and prepare for postpartum before you have the baby. Some postpartum doulas cook light meals, tidy, do the baby’s laundry and/or occupy older siblings while you care for your new baby.

As your doula, I will preform the above tasks and answer any questions you have about newborn care, assess your mental health on a weekly basis and help you navigate this beautiful (and challenging) phase of life. <3

Specific services may vary by doula so it’s best to interview 3+ before choosing who to work with.

  • Glad you asked! A Postpartum Doula provides emotional support, answers questions, offers guidance on newborn care, breastfeeding, and postpartum recovery, and may assist with light housework or errands. Her work can be done either during the day or night depending on available hours and what the family needs.

A night nurse primarily cares for the newborn overnight for 8-12 hours while the parents rest. Their focus is on diapering, feeding and soothing the baby.

  • Postpartum Doulas are not medically trained and cannot give medical advice for any member of the family. If an emergency arises, your doula will call 911 or encourage you to contact your doctor depending on the situation.

Likewise, she cannot care for circumcision or c-section incisions.

Additionally, postpartum doulas do not preform childcare without one or more of the parents present. She can attend doctor’s appointments and wait with your baby in the waiting room if both parties are comfortable. She can also be in another room with the baby while parents rest. However, she should never be left alone to preform babysitting duties.

  • I personally work on a first come, first serve basis, so as soon as possible.

The longer you would like doula services, the sooner I recommend booking. For example, 12 weeks of service is more likely to interfere with another client. One or two weeks of service is more likely to be available with shorter notice.

As always, though, don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions! I’d be happy to work something out with you!

If you are located outside of the these communities, please still reach out - we might be able to work something out or I can offer virtual services. <3

  • Doula support starts at 12 hours (one week of either 4 day shifts or 3 evening shifts), after that you can add by week up to 12 weeks - a decision we’ll discuss in your prenatal consultation.

  • I’m so glad you asked!

YES! Everyone’s postpartum needs are different so I’ve curated my services in a way that allows you to customize.
